Inspire a love for reading

Thousands of Michigan children will be inspired to read thanks to a $55,125 grant from the Consumers Energy Foundation that supports the Library of Michigan’s Ready to Read Michigan book program.

Ready to Read Michigan (RTRM) is in its 2nd year; created to equip public library staff to share information about early literacy with families and caregivers through public library storytimes and outreach, focusing on children ages 0-5. RTRM is intended to support public library staff in learning about early literacy skill development as a foundation to future reading development to enable success in formal schooling and beyond.

Ready to Read Michigan (RTRM) is gearing up for its second year of providing books and materials to public libraries throughout Michigan for outreach to children ages 0-5. The program is designed for public librarians to model early literacy skill development directly to families and engage in outreach to early childhood centers, preschool classrooms and daycares throughout their community.

It's a wrap on the book program for Ready to Read Michigan 2018! RTRM has had an exciting first year and the book selection from the Library of Michigan's Youth Service Advisory Council of I Got the Rhythm was a big read-aloud hit for libraries.
